Texas Health IT Summit - Houston, TX - September 30 - October 2, 2010
Houston physicians, hospitals and healthcare stakeholders will get an early glimpse at the opportunity to participate in newly funded health information technology during the Texas Health Information IT Summit in Houston, September 30th - October 2nd.  With the recent funding announcement by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, area providers are encouraged to adopt "meaningful use" criteria in order to create a national system of effective electronic health information exchanges, improving the quality and efficiency of health care.

Secretary Sebelius recently announced awards to help states facilitate health information exchange and advance health information technology (health IT).  Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the awards are part of the $2 billion effort to achieve widespread meaningful use of health IT and provide use of an electronic health record by every citizen by the year 2014.

"States are important partners in improving and expanding our electronic health records system.  By improving the secure exchange of electronic health records between providers and hospitals within and across states, these awards mark a significant step in bringing our health system into the 21st century," said Secretary Sebelius.

The Texas Health IT Summit, hosted by TMF Health Quality Institute and Texas Health Institute is the largest and most comprehensive Health Information Technology Summit held in the Lone Star State.
